Youth get a first glimpse… and input… into building designs

Members of Youth Advisory Council view first draft design ideas for 15 Cavan St

November 12, 2024

Members of YWH Northumberland’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) met officially for the first time at the 15 Cavan St Hub Headquarters in Port Hope, for a first glimpse of the renovation designs for the building.

A diverse group of youth volunteers age 12-20 from across Northumberland County joined our YAC, which meets once a month to ensure that youth priorities remain at the centre of the design process for both the building and the programs offered.

Their first meeting saw youth studying a floorplan, design elements and even an initial 3D rendering of what the building might look like when it opens next June. They were then invited to give feedback anonymously through multi-coloured sticky notes covering the walls.

Architect representative Drew Johnson from Andrew Smith Building Design Inc was there with Alexis and Jennifer to collect the feedback and speak to the Council about the aspirations for the space.
